Federal Government signs 30MW Gurara Concession Agreement with North South Power Company Limited

On Tuesday, May 12, 2020 the Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Federal Ministry of Water Resources (represented by the Permanent Secretary, FMWR, Comfort Ekaro) signed a 25-year Concession Agreement for the 30MW Gurara hydropower plant with North South Power Company Limited (represented by a Director, Dr. George Nwangwu).

Present at the signing ceremony were the Honourable Minister of Water Resources, Engr. Suleiman Adamu FNSE, FAEng and the Director General, ICRC, Chidi Izuwa. In his speech, the Honourable Minster stated that all was now set to put the hydropower plant into sustainable operation towards increasing access to electricity in Nigeria, for job creation and better life for our people. He also mentioned that the public private partnership model being adopted would accelerate infrastructural development and enhance their effective and efficient operation and maintenance.

The DG, ICRC, Chidi Izuwa, appreciated the leadership role of the Minister and mentioned that the Gurara project in addition to adding 30MW to the power generation of the country, would also bring NGN17.6 billion revenue to the coffers of the Nation as well as create jobs for a lot of Nigerians.

Dr. George Nwangwu (NSP Director) thanked all parties for the role in which they played and expressed a deep sense of responsibility as NSP looks forward to serving the Nation.
